Hannah is a naturalist, mariner, international wilderness guide, science journalist, performer, photographer and creative essayist. She graduated from Harvard University in 2009 with degrees in English and Organismic & Evolutionary Biology and holds her MFA in Creative Nonfiction from University of Arizona. She is the recipient of the Barry Lopez Prize in Nonfiction, the Ellen Meloy Desert Writers Award, and the Thomas Wood Award in Journalism, among other honors. Her stories about birds are forthcoming in In the Shadow of the Bridge (Heyday Press, November 2025). Hannah is the winner of the 2024 River Teeth Literary Nonfiction Book Prize, and her book Love and Other Fish is forthcoming with University of New Mexico Press in summer 2026.

  1. I loved your story about your brother in the Rumpus. It was raw and wild and gorgeous. I’m writing one about my brother who I love so much who drinks. He appears and disappears from my life. I miss being his buddy.
